A Message from Lori ![]() Love is in the air! As we approach Valentine’s Day, I think about all of the Planned Parenthood supporters who share with me how much they love what we do every day to protect reproductive rights for families in Michigan. These supporters make annual gifts to Planned Parenthood of Michigan (PPMI) which allows us to continue to empower women to make informed decisions regarding their health and rights. Donors often ask me how they can do more. The simple answer is planned giving. Charitable gifts through your estate provide options for you to continue your support of PPMI, build a legacy, and receive tax and income benefits. These donations have the potential to help sustain our budget and future. This program also allows us to generate significant gifts from donors who might not be ready to give a sizable cash gift right away, and the best part is that it typically costs you nothing to add a charitable bequest to your first will or at a later date when you update your plan. You too can protect women’s reproductive rights for generations by making a gift through your will, trust, retirement plan or life insurance policy. Contact our planned giving specialists by calling 855-896-4966 or learn more here. There is only one happiness in life: to love and be loved. — George Sand Thank you for showing us the "love" with your constant support. ![]() Lori Carpentier ![]() Planned Giving Care. No matter what. It’s a simple tagline, but one that carries an enormous price. Planned Parenthood of Michigan (PPMI) is constantly threatened with defunding by legislators who are responding to anti-Planned Parenthood group’s demands. One way that donors can assist in this fight for women’s rights is through planned giving. As a supporter of PPMI, you have expressed your values through your gift to PPMI’s efforts, balancing your financial needs with your desire to protect reproductive rights. If you wish you could do more, you can! Remembering PPMI in your will, a trust, or through an annuity is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give future generations. Donors who add PPMI to their will have seen the work we do in Michigan and they want to further our good work. They want to create a legacy to provide future resources to continue our mission of delivering vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to Michigan families. We hope that you will let us know if you have included PPMI as a beneficiary of your estate. Providing us with notice of your intentions is the best way to ensure that we receive the gift you have planned for us and we are best able to honor your wishes when we know of them in advance. For more information about ensuring the future of family planning and reproductive rights, contact our team at PPMI at 855-896-4966. A successful CEO and business woman, Meg has always been a community leader in the Grand Rapids area. A passionate art collector, she is also on the board of directors of the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, Broadway Grand Rapids, and the Grand Rapids Art Museum Foundation. Meg is a traveler and adventure lover. An active skier, she creates a sense of fun wherever she goes. Meg is a progressive and strong supporter of Planned Parenthood. As a board member and volunteer, she was recognized last year as one of Planned Parenthood of Michigan's champions, receiving the “Katie Award” named after champion and philanthropist Katharine Dexter McCormick. When you talk to Meg about her legacy, she is very thoughtful about what organizations she has included in her estate plan. She cites passion and longevity of involvement as the indicators that organizations will be good stewards of her resources. It is also important to Meg that her bequests represent her values and priorities. Meg feels it only makes sense to have the missions you cared about and worked with continue your legacy with an unrestricted gift. She says if the organization at some point needs to use your resources to keep the lights on, that’s OK, but not ideal. You want your money to go to a good place you believe in and trust will be good stewards of your resources. She also smiles as she says we all say that we don’t do this for the recognition, but it still feels good to know that you might encourage others to do the same. If you have or are considering making a planned gift to Planned Parenthood of Michigan, please feel free to contact Wendy Lawson 734-926-4805 or Jim Norton at 616-913-6026. We will be happy to work with you.
